Bionomics

  • Larvae are found “in clear water in well vegetated swamps, seepages, and slow moving streams and rivers; occasionally in Pistisa in wells... This is an anthropophilic species throughout its range, entering houses to feed on man and resting there afterwards" (Gillies and deMeillon 1968).

Medical Importance

  • It is a vector of malaria (Gillies and deMeillon 1968).
