Bionomics
Ground habitats with clear, cool, fresh water, slow moving or nearly stagnant with abundant emergent vegetation, and water temperatures in the 23 - 33C. range with 28C. as the ideal. Hill, mountain, high plateau species at elevations up to 1829m. seepage pools at the base of hills is the favored habitat (Harrison 1980).

Medical Importance
Primary malaria vector. Found naturally infected with B. malayi and W. bancrofti (Harrison 1980).
