- 2. Hypostomal suture (HyS) absent or incomplete, usually absent
- 3. Seta 12-I present
- 4. Pecten (Pt) absent or reduced with at most four spines
- 5. Saddle (Sa) complete or incomplete
- 6. Seta 1-S inserted beyond base
- 7. Siphon (S) usually sharply narrowed distally or sometimes modified for piercing plant tissues
- 8. Ventral brush (VB) seta 4-X with four to six pairs of setae
