IDENTIFYING CHARACTERS:
BIONOMICS: Larvae are found in salt marshes along the coast and in brackish water in some inland states. The larvae are found all year in the southern portions of its range. Females are very strong fliers, occasionally found 100 miles from nearest known larval habitats. Females are persistent and will bite any time, day or night, when their resting places are invaded.
MEDICAL IMPORTANCE: Sollicitans is a vector of dog heartworm.
