IDENTIFYING CHARACTERS:
BIONOMICS: Larvae of this species appear
in snow melt and rain pools in spring. Species appears to be univoltine.
Females will enter buildings to bite man. Females are crepuscular.
10 mile flight ranges have been recorded.
MEDICAL IMPORTANCE: Possible vector
of dog heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis).
