FAMILY: Culicidae SUBFAMILY: Culicinae GENUS: Aedes SUBGENUS:Ochlerotatus IDENTIFYING CHARACTERS: Maxillary palpus of female much less than half the length of either the antenna or proboscis Postpsiracular setae present Prespiracular setae absent Scales on the dorsal surface of the radial sector and media narrow BIONOMICS: Larvae of this species appear in snow melt and rain pools in spring. Species appears to be univoltine. Females will enter buildings to bite man. Females are crepuscular. 10 mile flight ranges have been recorded. MEDICAL IMPORTANCE: Possible vector of dog heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis). DISTRIBUTION:
