IDENTIFYING CHARACTERS:
BIONOMICS: Larvae are found primarily
in treeholes and occasionally in artifical containers and rockholes.
MEDICAL IMPORTANCE: This species is
a proven vector of the LaCrosse strain of California encephalitis.
Under laboratory conditions an efficient vector of yellow fever, eastern
equine, Venezuelan and Western equine encephalomyelitis. It is also
a potential vector of Dog Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis)
